The Desert Rocks Music Festival (www.desertrocks.org) is an annual event held June 7-10 (2012) outside of Moab, Utah. The festival is promoted through flyers, posters, radio spots, newspapers, online media, magazines, and promotion tours throughout the four corners region and the rest of the Western United States. Over the past three years the festival has experienced exponential growth. Due to the need to increase promotion, marketing, and event management for the 2012 (8th Annual) festival, Desert Rocks has created an exciting internship program.
The Desert Rocks Internship Program is a wonderful opportunity for students to gain real world experience developing and implementing marketing and operational strategies and concepts associated with building a brand. The program will also teach students the team building and networking skills essential to surviving in today’s competitive job market.
Although the internship program will be primarily focused on marketing or operations, the experience is not limited there. The opportunity always exists to work in all fields of work associated with the festival, from administration to accounting, marketing to operations. The program also provides a great opportunity to learn about the “ins and outs” of marketing in the entertainment industry. Interns will have the chance to network with several experienced industry professionals. Some of the benefits for interning with Desert Rocks include, working in a friendly professional environment, experience in online and telephone conferencing, opportunities to go on tour with regionally and nationally touring bands, free tickets to promotional concerts in the area, and of course the experience of being a part of the Desert Rocks Music Festival.
As an intern you will be expected to complete at least 10 hours of work per week throughout the semester. We also strongly encourage attendance at the festival itself. There is a possibility of having your internship count as class credit, which should be investigated further if you are interested. Professional dress and behavior is expected, as you will be an integral part of the Desert Rocks staff. Please look over the information below of what will be generally required of you as an intern.
